{ARTISOFT PREMIERES NEW KIVA(TM) NETCONFERENCING(TM)
{SYSTEM AT DEMO '93
{New Flexible Multimedia Meeting System Will Connect Participants
{On Networked PCs
(TUCSON, AZ -- February 1, 1993) -- The KIVA NetConferencing system
(patent pending), a PC LAN-based electronic meeting system, was
announced today by Artisoft, Inc. To be introduced as the solution to
the common problems and limitations of traditional meetings, the KIVA
system was selected as a premier product for DEMO '93 and is being
demonstrated at the Palm Springs conference this week.
The KIVA system will combine a flexible rule-based system with real-
time, fully-interactive voice conferencing and the ability to
distribute multimedia handouts. The result will be a computer-
administered conference that can be conducted automatically and
moderated precisely, ensuring the best possible dissemination of
information using networked computers.
"Anyone who has ever participated in regular meetings knows how
frustrating it can be. There are the constant interruptions of
participants, confusion over who said what, and a general lack of
control over the means and methods of the conference," commented Jack
Schoof, Artisoft's Chairman & CEO.
With the KIVA system, a moderator will set a defined order, format and
time frame for member participation. Entire conferences will be
archived and compressed in a comprehensive voice and text file which
can be transcribed via the ArtiScribe(TM) NetMedia(TM) system.
Participants will be able to monitor their place in the queue; access
the conference archive "faster than real-time" to catch up to a
meeting in progress; participate in an anonymous, on-line vote;
electronically "raise their hand" to speak; or simply monitor the
activities of other participants.
Future developmental goals include an electronic white board, multi-
language support, off-line voice notes, conference voting, user voice
scrambling, and multiplatform support.
This product is still in the developmental stage and is subject to
change without further notice. Accordingly, Artisoft cannot predict
the final feature set, release date or revenue contribution of this
product.
Artisoft develops and manufactures a full line of innovative, cost-
effective network communication solutions including the LANtastic(R)
Local Area Network. Recognized as the leader in peer-to-peer
networking for DOS and Windows(TM) environments, the LANtastic network
now offers multiplatform connectivity solutions for NetWare(R),
Macintosh(R) and TCP/IP systems. It allows up to 300 users of IBM-
compatible computers to connect and share information and peripheral
devices such as printers, hard drives and CDROMs and has won numerous
